With a lecture spanning 31 hours, 42 minutes and 54 seconds, a 400- Level University of Ilorin Mathematics Student, Kazeem Sanusi, has set a new Guiness World Book Record for the ‘Longest Mathematics Lesson’.
The groundbreaking event, which was witnessed by representatives of Guinness World Record, smashed the previous record of
26 hours non-stop lesson.
Kazeem performed the feat to the cheers of a captivated audience led by the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Fawole; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla; the Dean of Physical Sciences, Prof. Abdullahi Alafara Baba; the Ag Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Alex Akanmu, and the Student Union President, Comrade Victor Agezeh, among others.
He is now eagerly awaiting official confirmation from Guinness World Record.
Congratulating the student prodigy, the vice chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, said that the university is “immensely proud of the feat of Kazeem, and we will continue to encourage others to find their passion and pursue it.”
Prof. Egbewole expressed hope that with the provision of the enabling environment by the University Management for students to be the best they could be, others would be inspired by Kazeem’s feat to also break all ceilings and continue to write the name of the University in gold.
In related development a 400-level student of the department of Food Engineering, Qudus Aduragbemi Balogun, has emerged as the project leader in a team that recently won the prestigious European Youth Empowerment Fund.
Other members of the team are Prof. M.O. Sunmonu, and Dr M. S. Sanusi, all of the Food Engineering Department of the University, and they jointly won the €1,200 European Youth Empowerment Grant.
The project also includes other experts’ contributions from Prof. J. O. Olaoye, Dr M. M. Odewole, Dr T. D. Akpenpuun, and Dr O. Ahmed, who represented the Departments of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Food Engineering, and Crop Protection, respectively.
A statement jointly issued by the project supervisor, Prof. M. O. Sunmonu and Project Coordinator, Dr M. S. Sanusi, a , disclosed that the initiative, which falls under the “Young Individual” category of the grant, with “Award-winning proposal, titled “Empowering Smallholder Farmers with Climate-Resilient and Vertical Farming Skills,” is a four-month initiative that will be implemented in Ilorin, with the goal of training 100 youths in sustainable agricultural practices including vertical farming systems band climate-resilient techniques”.
The project is scheduled to begin on April 28, 2025, and it is expected to significantly contribute to youth empowerment and the promotion of innovative agricultural solutions in the region.
