Uneasy calm in Kano as 2 emirs operate from different palaces

Following the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano by Governor Abba  Kabir Yusuf, the ancient  city is now in the grip of two emirs receiving homage  at their respective palaces.

Blueprint correspondent, who visited both palaces, reports that Sanusi was busy receiving a retinue of visitors and prominent traditional title holders trooping to pay homage.

Also, at the palace where the 25th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero was residing he was busy reviewing hordes of visitors and prominent traditional rulers paying homage, making Kano a tale of two emirs operating from two palaces.

What is however boosting the confidence of Emir Sanusi is the presence of Governor Yusuf, members of his cabinet, as well as members of the National Assembly in addition to the arms-trotting hunters who kept constant vigil throughout Saturday night.

In the same vein the confidence of Aminu Ado Bayero was also affirmed by a retinue of heavily armed security operatives guarding the palace.

The protracted log jam is becoming a jigsaw puzzle to those who were anxious to know the fate of the two existing monarchs, whose fate is still hanging in the balance in the face of the court injunction stopping the abolition of the five emirates in Kano.

Meanwhile, the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation has advised the Kano state government and the Kano Emirate Council to respect the rule of law in the interest of peace and stability of the state.

Chairman of the Foundation, Sheikh Ibrahim Sheikh Dahiru, stated at a press conference in Bauchi that the advice became necessary to avoid chaotic situations in Kano state.

Sheikh Ibrahim, who faulted the Kano state government’s decision towards the removal of the first class emirs in the state, urged the dethroned emirs to take a bow in the interest of peace and brotherhood and to avoid shedding the blood of innocent souls.

He said, “in the interest of peace, we want justice to prevail, since the court has intervened to maintain law and order. We expect each party to respect the rule of law in the interest of peace.”

He also urged the National Assembly to amend the constitution and make laws that will protect traditional rulers from the politicians who use power to dethrone or appoint at will.

“We want the parties to  work together to build a brighter future for the people of Kano State and Nigeria, where justice, peace and prosperity reign supreme, and where the rights and dignity of all citizens are upheld and respected,” he added.
