U.S. Embassy, Consulate to shuts for Labour Day

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have announced that both missions will be closed on Monday, 1 September 2025, in observance of Labour Day, a federal holiday in the United States.

In a post on its official X handle, the Embassy explained that normal consular services will resume on Tuesday, 2 September, 2025.

The closure means that routine visa interviews, document services, and other public engagements will not hold during the holiday.

Labour Day, marked every first Monday of September, is a national holiday in the U.S. that celebrates the contributions of workers and the labour movement.

It also unofficially signals the end of summer, often marked with parades, family gatherings, and community events across American cities.

For Nigerians planning travel to the United States or those requiring urgent consular assistance, the Embassy noted that emergency services will remain available for U.S. citizens during the closure.

The notice serves as a reminder for applicants and visitors to adjust their schedules and avoid inconveniences.
