U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed his attendance at the FIFA Club World Cup final scheduled for Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The announcement comes on the heels of FIFA’s decision to open a new office in Trump Tower, New York—signaling a strategic move to deepen its footprint in the United States. The country is currently hosting the inaugural expanded edition of the tournament and will co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico.

Sunday’s final will feature Chelsea taking on either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid at the same stadium that will host the World Cup final next year.

President Trump, who also attended the Super Bowl earlier this year, is heading a White House taskforce overseeing preparations for both the Club World Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the U.S. government’s involvement, stating, “We have received such big support from the government and from the president with the White House taskforce for the FIFA Club World Cup and for the FIFA World Cup next year.”

He also emphasized the importance of FIFA’s growing local presence in the U.S., saying, “FIFA is a global organisation and to be global you have to be local… so we have to be in New York.”

While FIFA already operates an office in Miami, the new location in Trump Tower represents a symbolic and strategic expansion to strengthen engagement with U.S. authorities.

Despite criticisms surrounding Trump’s immigration policies and a travel ban currently affecting citizens of 12 countries, Infantino sought to reassure fans: “FIFA is a global organisation and to be global you have to be local… fans will be welcomed to the U.S.”

Reports suggest Trump may soon expand travel restrictions to include as many as 36 additional countries.

Since beginning his second term, Trump has increased his visibility in the sports arena. He became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl and announced in May that Washington, D.C., will host the 2027 NFL Draft. He has also made appearances at multiple UFC events, including one last month in New Jersey, and has plans to host a UFC event at the White House next year.
