The Tor Tiv, Orcivirigh Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, Tuesday, lauded the humanitarian efforts of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, towards alleviating the suffering of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue state.
The paramount ruler made the commendation at his palace in Gboko while receiving the Benue state leadership of the Church, led by its president, Dr. Godwin Aondohemba Timiun.
The royal father expressed deep appreciation for the church’s relief initiatives and called for a renewed commitment to worship based on truth and faith as outlined in the Bible.
He further stated the importance of agriculture, urging Christians to embrace farming as a means to combat poverty and hunger, adding that God has blessed the land with fertile soil meant to sustain His people.
“God, in His loving kindness, has given us rich soil. It is our duty to cultivate it and enjoy the abundance it offers,” the Tor Tiv remarked.
He also took a firm stance against what he described as unbiblical practices infiltrating some modern churches, such as the selling of holy water, handkerchiefs, and charging money for prayers, reminding believers of Christ’s call to give freely as they have received.
In his address, Dr. Godwin Aondohemba Timiun, who also serves as the national president of the Farmers Initiative for Agricultural Development in the Benue Valley, praised the Tor Tiv’s courageous leadership, especially during President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to the state.
