The International Organisation of Tijaniyyah Brotherhood (IOTB) has condemned what it termed assassination attempt on renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, and Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), in Kaduna, last week by suicide bombers.
It stated this in a statement by issued by its chairman, Prof.Abdullahi Okene, shortly after international press conference held at the Centre for Democratic Development, Research and Training (CDDRT),Zaria.
The statement said: “It is with great grief that we received information of the assassination attempt on the life of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. This happened along Alkali road in Kaduna on the very important day of the closing of Ramadan Tafsir (Qur’anic exegesis).
“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi is an acknowledged international Islamic scholar; an educationist, a peace loving patriotic Nigerian, an Africanist and indeed an Islamic philanthropist concerned with inculcating Islamic knowledge and moral principles to the members of Muslim community in especially his over 600 Qur’anic schools across Nigeria.”
According to the statement, “the Tijaniyyah adherents are of the view that peace and development cannot be achieved by intimidation, corruption, secretive plotting, violence and anarchy in the name of any form of ideology, religious or otherwise.”
The statement urged leaders at all levels of government and the citizens to “see through the high stake attempts to destabilise the country by all means,” adding that people must be unwavering in their endeavours to uphold truth and justice.
