As stakeholders continue to appraise what has been hailed widely as a very successful 3rd edition of the North Central Handball Championship, which ended in Makurdi yesterday, let’s take time out to celebrate the Star-Boys and Girls, who distinguished themselves, during the week-long tournament.
According to the Technical Committee, the award for the Highest Goals Scorer (Men) went to Anas Mohammed of Niger United (42 goals); and the Women’s equivalent of the award, went to Abdulrazak Idowu of Defender Babes (37 goals).
Niger United also produced the Best Goal Goalkeeper for men, went to Abbas Mohammed; just as Omooluwa Susan of Defender Babes, was named best shot stopper, women.
Atabor Abubakar of the FRSC Safety Shooters of Abuja, winners of the tournament in 2020, 2021 and 2023; scooped the Most Valuable Player for Men; while Planglang Oliver of Plateau Peacocks, was named Women’s MVP.
The week long championships in Makurdi, was the first time the championships held outside of Abuja; was played in two refurbished Courts at the Aper Aku Stadium, and that represents one of the many legacies of left behind.
It was sponsored by GeorgeOjih foundation, and organized for the first under the aegis of the Mega Handball Veterans of Abuja.
The tournament is the brain child of Mr. Saidu Jibrin Ojih, who represents the North Central, on the Board of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN).
