The life of a snail

Snail, as the name sounds slow when pronounced, is one of the slowest ground animals. Snails are fragile and sensitive, so whenever you touch them you might find out that they go in their shell fast.

Snails like to eat very green and healthy leaves like bitter leaf, Ugu (in Igbo language) in English (pumpkin leaf), orange chaff, and other green leaves. Snails have a very curly or spiral shell. Snails judge their environment. They normally stay in a cool and wet place, and snails can sleep for 3 years, which is called hibernation, as they are hibernating, they are also laying hundreds of eggs. It is also true that snails can live up to between 2 to 7 years. If in captivity, they can live longer.

It has been found out that snails are hermaphrodites which means that they have both male and female sex organs in one body. When you see them not coming out of their shells, it may mean that they are hibernating. If you put snails in the sun they might not come out of their shell. Snails normally come out in the evening or the rainy season because if you put snails in the sun for a long period then their slime will dry up.
