A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Garius Gololo, has attributed extension of office by government officials as part of the corruption bedeviling the country.
Gololo who cited an example of the Managing Directors of Nigerian Port Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello Koko and the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashiru Yusuf Jamoh who have stayed beyond their tenures having served 5 years each in office.
Gololo in an interview on Friday in Abuja, urged the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint a new MD and a DG for the agencies.
He said: “it is going to over 5 years and what am expecting the President to do is to bring in another fresh set of people who are experienced.
“The more they remain in office, the more you have a corrupt government and so, they shouldn’t be retained. Today makes it exactly 5 years that they are in office,” he said.
On the alleged N3 billion National Social Investment Programme Agency’s (NSIPA) fraud against the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, Gololo said a minister who is not working should go adding that Beta should be investigated and prosecuted if found guilty.
The minister in a statement signed by her special adviser on media and publicity Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair on Thursday, January 4, the minister described the allegation as a “tissue of lies, spurious allegation to divert anti-graft agency’s attention.”
According to the minister, the allegation is the handiwork of fifth columnists aimed at dragging her into the ongoing investigations of the NSIPA scandal by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
