Team Nigeria has officially named Honourable Victor Clement and Temitope Ademola as captains of the boys’ and girls’ squads, respectively, ahead of the 3rd Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U-18/U-20 Championships, which kick off on Wednesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The 92-member contingent was formally unveiled on Tuesday evening at the MKO Abiola Stadium by the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Tonobok Okowa, alongside the federation’s Technical Director, Gabriel Okon.
The team, which includes 51 boys and 41 girls, concluded a two-week intensive training camp before moving into the Games Village on Monday in preparation for the continental competition.
According to the AFN, 23 boys and 17 girls will represent the country in the U-18 category, while 29 boys and 24 girls will compete in the U-20 division. In terms of event participation, both boys and girls in the U-18 category will compete in 17 events each. The U-20 boys are scheduled for 19 events, while the U-20 girls will take part in 18 events.
The championships are expected to attract top young athletic talents from across Africa, with Nigeria aiming to make a strong showing on home soil.
