Teacher’s training essential for national development – NBAIS Registrar

The Registrar of the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), Prof. Yahuza Suleiman Imam, has stated that teacher’s professional training is very critical for national development and growth of Arabic and Islamic studies. 

Addressing a three-day workshop organised by the Board in collaboration with the Foundation of Integrated Arabic School and Islamic Enlightenment (FIASIE), Wednesday, Prof. Imam highlighted a commitment towards addressing the challenges facing Arabic and Islamic studies and enhancing the effectiveness of Arabic and Islamic education in the diverse aspects of the country as key fulcrums of the Board. 

He also indicated a comprehensive approach to improving teaching strategies, curriculum development and the integration of modern technology in Arabic and Islamic studies as ways of improving the teaching and learning of Islamic and Arabic studies across the country. 

The Registrar, who was represented by the Board’s Head, Information and Protocol Unit, Barrister Mu’azu Yunus Sambo, pointed out that the need for frequent training and retraining of teachers on the count is essential for national development. 

He further appreciated the FIASIE officials for ensuring success of the workshop at the NBAIS headquarters.

The topics discussed at the workshop include Strategies of Teaching Arabic Grammer in Middle, Basic and Lower Classes, Stages of Teaching Arabic Conversation to Non-Arabs; Arabic and Islamic Education; Curricula for Primary Schools: Northern Nigeria as a case study, Challenges and Suggestions.

Other subjects discussed at the workshop are Discipline/Punishment in Schools between Outrage and Dignity, Method of Teaching Islamic Subjects for Basic Classes: Fiqh and Tahoeed as a case study.

The head of FIASIE, Malam Ibrahim Busari, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the NBAIS management for the logistics and technical support. 

He explained that the over 200 participants were drawn from over 200 schools across the country, promising that such workshops will boost training, capacity and contribute to the development of education in Nigeria.
