The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)  Monday engaged traditional and grassroots leaders in Kaduna in a renewed push to curb encroachment and vandalism on its facilities.

The sensitisation forum, held under the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), brought together traditional rulers, youth groups, and community influencers to address the mounting safety risks and economic losses associated with illegal structures and sabotage of transmission infrastructure.

General Manager of TCN Kaduna Region, Nasir Mansur Fada, said the company was undertaking major transformer upgrades and network expansion across the region, but warned that progress would remain fragile unless host communities took ownership of power assets and reported threats in real time.

“Our job is to build and maintain the infrastructure, but we cannot succeed without the vigilance and cooperation of the people living around these facilities. “When vandals strike or when buildings are erected under power lines, everyone suffers,” he said.
