Suspects who raped Akwa Ibom hotel guest nabbed

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom Police command have arrested five suspects who were involved in rapping a hotel guest in Abak local government area of the state.

The suspects are, Richard Edet Udo, Hope Unibong Anitie, Joseph Ibongidi, Christian Joseph Johnny and Joseph Joseph.

The command said the suspects were arrested on July 30th at their hideout following credible intelligence.

This was contained in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John in Uyo, Tuesday.

The statement noted that on June 26, 2025, the suspects broke into a Guest House (name withheld) in Abak, robbed a man of his belongings and raped a female guest.

The statement added that while raiding the suspects’ hideout believed to be a shrine, the operatives recovered two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, pictures of people, and other fetish items.

The statement reads: “On June 26, 2025, a man (name withheld) reported that a group of armed individuals broke into his room at a  Guest House (name withheld ) in Abak, robbing him of his belongings and raping his female guest.

“Acting on a firm directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, operatives of the command initiated an investigation. On July 30, 2025, at approximately 11:10 PM, detectives raided the criminals’ hideout. 

“During the raid, operatives recovered disturbing items from what appeared to be a shrine, including two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, pictures of people, and other fetish items.”
