At least 11 people were reported killed and seven others injured in a brutal attack by herdsmen militia in the Dikpo and Imande Gberihwa communities of Kpav, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue state.
The attack occurred between 7:30 pm and 9 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2025, Blueprint reports.
Katsina-Ala LGA Chairman, Mr. Justine Shaku, confirmed the incident, stating that several houses were burnt and foodstuff destroyed.
“There was no provocation before the attack,” he said.
“The bandits have been carrying out these killings over time.”
Benue state governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, condemned the attack, describing it as “extremely offensive” and promised that those responsible will face justice.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured the people of Benue state that their security is his top priority.
Governor Alia stated that his administration has deployed security forces to the affected areas and is working with local law enforcement and community leaders to prevent further incidents.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
