Suspected herders Tuesday at Odo-Ere, headquarters of Yagba West local government area of Kogi state, allegedly killed an SS3 student of United Comprehensive College, Kola Sunday.
It was gathered that the attack occurred when the victim and his two other siblings were working on the family farm in the community.
Though the action and reason for killing the student by the killer herders has not been ascertained, the suspects reportedly shot three young boys working in a farm and Sunday could not make it home alive as the bullets hit his head, killing him before they could rush him to the hospital.
The two survivors of the attack went home and recounted their ordeal in the hands of their attackers which triggered an unprecedented outcry in the community.
The spokesperson of “the Better Yagba West Youths Forum,” Babatunde Muyiwa Stephen, lamented that the death of the young man, Sunday, is not only a blow to his family and friends but also a dark stain on the collective conscience of Yagba society.
“We vehemently condemn this senseless act of violence. The loss of such a promising young soul at the prime age of his life and academic career is both heart-breaking and utterly unacceptable. Our hearts go out to Kola’s family, his classmates, and all those affected by this tragedy”.
The group called on the Yagba West local government authority, the leadership of Ere community, security agencies, and all critical stakeholders to synergise efforts in finding lasting solution to the growing insecurity threatening the peace and stability of Yagba West.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Kogi State Police Command, SP William Aya, when contacted over the ugly incident promised to reach out to the operatives of the command in the area to get details of the incident.
