Supreme Court: Edo throws government house gates open after backlash

Edo state 1

The Edo state government House entrance gates were on Monday thrown open to guest after backlash; arising from Friday’s lockout of jubilant supporters and market women.

It was also observed that there was minimal security checks of visitors by security personnel.

Besides, Blueprint gathered that governor Monday Okpebholo’s order of security shakeup at the Government House may have been implemented as the quarter quards were conspicuously absent from their duty post.

Okpebholo, came under criticism after his supporters were denied access into the Government House by security operatives following his Supreme court triumph celebration.

The supporters had converged at the Benin Airport as early as 7am to give Okpebholo a rousing welcome after his triumph in the 2024 governorship election legal dispute at the Supreme Court in Abuja.

Okpebholo whose aircraft landed at the Benin Airport at about 12.40pm was welcome by the supporters amid solidarity songs.

The supporters, many of whom were not mobile, proceeded on foot in a road procession with governor Okpebholo’s motorcades for about an hour.

The procession terminated at the Edo state government House where the supporters were informed by security operatives that only Very Important Personalities (VIPs) would be granted access into the premises for continued celebration and refreshments.
