The federal government has been urged to as a matter of urgency consider and support music industry for economic development.
An Icon of Music Records, Mr Chinedu Okoro, specifically called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider music industry as means of empowering Nigeria talented youths.
He however, appealed to the President to also fund the music industry so as to take unemployed youths out of the streets.
According to him, globally music industry has become a driver of employment, economic growth, innovation and social cohesion.
He said, “Nigeria’s music industry contributes significantly, offering legitimate employment to people, thereby making it the second largest employer of labour in Nigeria.”
Mr. Okoro is in support of the removal of fuel subsidy.
He however, advised that the money from the subsidy should be channeled into meaningful projects across the country.
Also known as “Larry Popo”, Mr. Okoro said, “Icon Music Records has been a dream of my life, the idea was conceived since 2005.
“Today, it has become an international record label licensed to promote young artists from across the african continent.
“The label is dynamically set up to dish out back to back hits from some of the best artists in the industry.
“Icon Music Records is registered in the UK as well as Nigeria. We pay attention to the fact that we are a multi ethnic society, culturally powered by music enjoyed from our rich and melodious culture. Music as universal tool has created so much entertainment to people all over, from all facet of life, and our record label has been structured to be a part of discovering that through music, a lot can be achieved with the youths and music.
“Currently under our wings are some of the most amazing and gifted artists. We are proud to have them and more in subsequent time. We are here to give that oppurtunity to as many as are ready to take over the world through music.”
