Super Eagles to drop 5 players before England friendly

Coach of the home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria, Salisu Yusuf, has said that five players will be dropped before the team will leave Abuja for the friendly match against England on Saturday.

He stated this while fielding questions from newsmen at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja Tuesday.

According to Coach Yusuf,
“The draw against Congo DR was fair, because we tried to combine and try out some new players to see what they can do. For a test game, the players proved themselves. Tryonne Ebuenyi’s substitution in the match was just a precautionary measure; in order for him not to be exposed to difficulties. He didn’t sustain a serious injury.

“Some people have never played together like Junior Lakosa, Simmy Nwankwo and this brought about the disorganization in the match yesterday, which is normal when you give people a chance to prove themselves.

“Our midfield was not coordinated, because the people have not played together before. However, I believe we will do better against England because we will come out with our best team. Five players will be dropped before we leave Abuja.”

The Super Eagles are billed to take on The Three Lions of England on Saturday, in preparation for the Russia 2018 World Cup, with Coach Gernot Rohr expected to whittle down the 30-man list before submitting the final 23-man list to FIFA on June 4.
