Many pupils and students of public schools in Edo state were stranded on Tuesday following the strike action called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The students who were apparently unaware of the strike action had resumed for academic activities, but met their school gates under lock.
Besides, commercial banks shut their doors against customers who had visited for transactions.
Blueprint observed that activities in government’s ministries and agencies were paralysed in total compliance with the strike.
President of TUC in Edo state, Comrade Alabi Precious, said there was total compliance with the strike in the state.
Edo state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Odion Olaye, said the union has shutdown banks, courts, state secretariat, ministries, department and agencies among others, in compliance with the national body’s directive.
“The strike action was necessitated by the assault on the NLC President Comrade Joe Ajero in Imo state and the failure of the government to honour the memorandum of understanding reached with both union when the fuel subsidy was removed,” he sai..
