Experts at the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) Week in Kaduna have advocated for strategic leadership and tax reforms to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, calling for measures to boost productivity and revenue generation.
Director of Entrepreneurship at Kaduna State University, Professor Seth Augustin, said disruptions such as unemployment, currency devaluation, and subsidy removal require forward-thinking leadership.
According to Professor Augustin, “Strategic leadership is about foresight, farsight, and hindsight, knowing what’s next and preparing for it.”
A senior member of NIM, Engr. Kabiru Osaini Ruma, commended President Bola Tinubu’s proposed tax reforms, saying they offer opportunities to increase internally generated revenue.
He noted concerns about VAT derivation issues raised by northern governors but argued the reforms encourage economic productivity.
“The new tax bill rewards productive economies. It’s an opportunity for states to rethink their strategies,” he said.
on his part, NIM Kaduna Chapter Chairman, Dr. Adamu Bala Adamu, stressed efficient resource management, saying, “If you can’t measure, you can’t manage.”
Speaking at the grand finale dinner, which featured the launch of the 2025 calendar, Dr. Adamu praised the chapter’s executive committee and sponsors for their efforts.
In his remarks, former Governor of Kaduna state, Dr. Ramalan Yero, urged northern NIM members to increase their participation in national leadership roles.
“The North must ensure better representation in NIM’s affairs,” Yero said.
The event also featured health walk, visit to Falgate Rice Mill, Kaduna, and a lecture on Strategic Leadership and Innovation: Navigating Economic and Digital Disruption in Nigeria.
