Stock market closes lower, loses N40bn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange Exchange yesterday returned to bearish run, shedding N40 billion.

Specifically. Market Capitalisation of listed equities declined by  0.19 per cent to N21.184 trillion from N21.224 trillion traded on Monday.

The NSE All Share Index also depreciated by 77.32 basis points to 40494.35 points from 40571.67 points reported the previous day.

Investors exchanged 356.430 million shares valued at N5.762 billion in 5040 deals against 206.243 million shares worth N2.163 billion in 4264 deals.

A review of the investment show that Learn Africa led gainers table in percentage terms, increasing by 9.28 per cent (N0.09 kobo) to close at N1.06 kobo, Ardova Plc followed with a gain of 9.06 per cent (N1.05 kobo) to close at N18.05 kobo, Multiverse increased by 8.33 per cent (N0.02 kobo) to close at N0.26 kobo, Wema Bank appreciated by 7.69 per cent (N0.05 kobo) to close at N0.70 kobo, Guinness Nigeria Plc added 7.32 per cent (N1.50 kobo) to close N22.00.

On the contrary UPDC REIT topped losers chart in the percentage points, declining by 10.00 (N0.06 kobo) to close at N5.40 kobo, Cornerstone Insurance PLC trailed with a loss of 10.00 per cent (0.06 kobo) to close at N0.54 kobo, CHI Plc fell by 9.52 per cent (N0.04 kobo) to close at N0.38 kobo. Prestige Insurance declined by 8.51 per cent (N0.04 kobo) to close at N0.43 kobo, Wapic Insurance dipped by 8.33 per cent (N0.05 kobo) to close at N0.55 kobo.
