Speaker Dogara’s key aide dumps APC

Usman Bawa, the Special Adviser to the Speaker of the House of Representatives on SpecialDuties, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bawa, who was a member of the House of Representatives where he represented Kaduna North Local Government Area at the National Assembly, sent his resignation letter, dated July 14, to the APC chairman in his local government.
Dogara’s spokesperson, Turaki Hassan, confirmed this yesterday stating that Bawa, who was appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, in 2015, was still an aide to his principal.
“I write to convey my decision to resign as a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) following consultations with my teaming supporters.
“The decision has become imperative to enable me pursue other course of life. I seize this opportunity to express my appreciation to the executives and members of APC for their support during my stint with the party,” he said without indicating which party he would be joining subsequently.
Bawa’s decision comes weeks after an aide to Senate President Bukola Saraki, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, another Kaduna-based politician, also left the party.
Although Dogara and Saraki are still officially members of the APC, they are believed to be the key sponsors of the R-APC, a splinter group within Nigeria’s ruling party.
Already, the rAPC is in talks with the other parties including the main opposition PDP to form a coalition for the 2019 election.
