Orphans, widows and other vulnerable persons in Southern Kaduna have commended Senator Sunday Marshall Katung for donating N11 million and assorted food items to support their welfare.

The donations, made as part of activities to mark the senator’s birthday, were distributed at Rafiki Orphanage near Kafanchan, the ECWA Widows’ Training School in Zangon Kataf and Gweimen Centre in Kwoi, Jaba Local Government Area (LGA).

Speaking during the distribution, Chairman of the committee, Gideon Gwani, said the items—comprising bags of rice, spaghetti, semolina, and cartons of noodles—were aimed at easing the burden on low-income households and humanitarian centres across the senatorial district.

He explained that the gesture was also in honour of Senator Katung’s mother, whose birthday coincided with his.

At each location, beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the senator for remembering them at a time many are struggling with rising costs of living.

Amina Musa, a widow and one of the beneficiaries, said, “Senator Katung has consistently supported us. His generosity brings relief and shows we are not forgotten.”

Another beneficiary, Martha Auta thanked the lawmaker for the relief item, saying “it will go a long way in helping to reduce cost of living.”

Religious leaders who witnessed the event also praised the initiative. Former ECWA General Secretary, Rev. Yunusa Madu, described the gesture as a noble act that reflects true servant leadership. He prayed for continued wisdom and strength for the senator.

The Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam in Jema’a, Alhassan Garba, said supporting orphans and widows is not only commendable but also spiritually rewarding. “This is how leaders earn the trust and love of their people,” he said.

State PDP Chairman, Hon. Edward Masha, said Senator Katung has enhanced the party’s image through his consistent outreach to the grassroots.

Other dignitaries, including former deputy hovernor Nuhu Bajoga and ex-Minister Hassan Hyet, lauded the senator for using personal milestones to touch lives.

Heads of the beneficiary institutions also commended the lawmaker. Dr. Felicia Kajang of Gweimen Centre said the donation would go a long way in meeting the centre’s daily needs.

The senator however pledged to sustain the initiative, saying that investing in vulnerable groups remains a personal priority. “It is not just about politics,It’s about humanity,” he said.
