The Commissioner for Water Resources in Sokoto state, Alhaji Yusuf Maccido, has said that people of the state are anxious to know the findings of the probe into the administration of Aminu Tambuwal.
He said the report would shed more light on how Tambuwal managed Sokoto in the eight years that he was governor.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Sokoto weekend, Maccido said the report is expected to address the right of the people to know how they were governed.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu had constituted a commission of Inquiry led by Justice Muazu Abdilkadari to examine the state of governance in Sokoto under Tambuwal’s watch.
According to him, the commission is still working, noting that every citizen of the state was looking forward to commission completing its assignment.
Maccido said there are incidences of anti-democratic activities perpetrated by the past administration which need to be addressed.
“We have heard from testimonies that the administration allegedly sold all the shares bought by our forefathers.
“We are definitely interested in knowing what they did with the money because they borrowed against all IGR accounts of the state and the FACC account.
“They left the state accounts in red, with nothing to show; to say that the people of Sokoto state and some important Nigerians are scandalised by the last administration is an understatement,” he said.
The commissioner observed that the real problem of Tambuwal was his presidential ambition.
“There is no state that would have survived the back to back presidential aspirations. In 2018, he ran and failed. He did so again in 2023.
“He funded his ambition with our resources. If we are lying, Tambuwal should provide contrary evidence,” Maccido said.
According to Maccido, what Governor Aliyu would do with the report of the inquiry was to let the people tp see, and know what the Tambuwal administration did with their resources.
“Personally, I would like to see how much he spent on hiring private jets for his trips when he was a visiting governor. “
“The people are not stupid. When you take them for granted, you will pay the price.
“The opposition will continue to throw everything at the administration of Aliyu , they are masters of propaganda and mischief.
“The PDP is shameless. They ought to have buried their heads in shame for squandering the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the people.
“But rather, they continue to engage in cooking up one lie or another every other day,” Maccido stated.
