Sokoto government proposes 15-year service bond for scholarship beneficiaries

The Sokoto State Government has announced plans to implement a mandatory 15-year service bond for all students sponsored under its scholarship programme.

Deputy Governor Idris Gobir disclosed the proposal on Monday during a meeting with the Sokoto Professionals Association. He explained that the new policy aims to safeguard the state’s investment in human capital and ensure that beneficiaries contribute meaningfully to Sokoto’s development before seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Gobir called on the association to support the initiative by mentoring young indigenes and providing career guidance, particularly in high-demand sectors.

In response, the association’s chairman, Zayyanu Yabo, expressed full support for the policy and reiterated the group’s commitment to youth development through training in leadership, entrepreneurship, and ICT. He also presented a commemorative plaque and the association’s newsletter to the deputy governor.
