The Sokoto state governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, has on Monday inaugurated food distributions and subsidy monitoring committee.
He charged members to live up to expectations and justify the confidence reposed on them
Aliyu told the committee members that they were chosen out of many based on their past records of integrity and uprightness.
“Our choice is based on confidence that you can deliver with utmost sincerity and fairness. And you should know that all eyes are on you,” the governor stated
He said the state monitoring and local government coordination committees were constituted to ensure effective and efficient distributions and sales of the commodities across the 23 local government areas of the state.
The governor also said that decision to purchase food items and sale it to the people was borne out of the government efforts to cushion the effects of hardship being experienced by members of public as a result of oil subsidy withdrawal and energy tariffs
He said his government and federal government had in the past introduced a number of programs in the name of palliatives aimed to alleviate sufferings of people especially down trodden masses
“I wish to state that considering the continued upsurge of the economic situation, the present administration felt it necessary to work out additional approach to alleviate the sufferings of our people,
” In this new approach, the state government procured food items and other essential commodities to be sold at 55% discounted rates to enable families access the commodities at affordable rate for the wellbeing of the family,” the governor stated
Ahmed Aliyu said the state government is committed in sustaining the supply of the commodities to all the 244 Wards in the state assured that it will each all
He warned the committee and local government coordinators against politicizing the sales stated the commodities should go round without any political inclination
“I want assure all that the gesture would be sustained until when the economic situation improved in the country”
called on the members of the public especially well to do people and corporate bodies to support and compliment the government efforts by coming up with similar gesture
