Sharia council tasks policy makers on social vices

The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (NCIA) has blamed the current insecurity, social and economic predicament in Nigeria on activities of miscreants.

The council stated this Thursday through its national vice president, Sheikh Abdulrashid Hadiyatullah, when he paid a courtesy visit to Jigawa state governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.

It said social vices must be tackled through spiritual and moral values in the young generation and the general public in order to guarantee peace, unity and progress in the country.

It said the rampant cases of adultery, rape against minor, homosexual, augury, corruption, abuse of trust, abuse of public office among others have reached an alarming stage in the country.

“In any society where such vices becomes order of the day what will certainly follow is social and economic crisis as it is happening now in the country.

“The increase of insecurity, kidnapping, insurgency, armed robbery, homicide, poverty and other social crisis are repercussions of moral decadent of the society and it can only be cured through spiritual societal reorientation,” the council stated.

It called on the Jigawa state governor and other political and community leaders to join hands with the religious bodies in addressing the problem once and for all.

Responding, Governor Abubakar said his government has been working hand- in-hand with religious leaders to promote norms and values and  to discourage all forms of social vices in the state.
