The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) in Edo State, has slammed the Edo State House of Assembly.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by CRPP chairman in Edo State, chased out by the Assembly security men.
The group claimed that the harassment was on the orders of the Assembly leadership, and discribed the development appalling.
According to CRPP, “it is quite appalling that lawmakers who are supposed to honor a court summons behave arrogantly, harassed and chased out a harmless Court Bailiff discharging his constitutional duty.”
The group however admonished the Assembly to “gladly honor the court summons and present their allegations against the Deputy Governor in an open court.”
The Coalition added that the impeachment move of Shaibu is unpopular, even as it expressed surprise that the Assembly ignored interventions from well-meaning Nigerians to exercise restraint.
On Tuesday, the Assembly passed a resolution directing the State’s Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to set up a seven-man committee to investigate allegations of gross misconduct levelled against Philip Shaibu.
