Several terrorists killed, as military continue onslaught in Borno

Troops of 212 Battalion of Sector 1, Operation LAFIYA DOLE with the support of the Air Task Force have killed several Boko haram/ Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, and revived arms and ammunition during a repel attack at Gajigana in Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche disclosed in a statement on Tuesday.

He said  the Battalion had earlier received credible intelligence report on terrorists convergence and advancement to attack troops’ location at Gajigana from Goni Usmanti Village in Nganzai Local Government  Area.

“In response to the terrorists attack on ground troops, the Air Task Force,  scrambled its Attack Aircraft and Helicopter Gunships to provide Close Air Support and engaged the Boko haram terrorists in exchange of fire with troops,” Enenche said.

“Further exploitation by 7 Div Gar discovered one destroyed gun truck and t wo abandoned gun trucks at Mitturu Village.”

He said some items, which include: two AK-47 riffles, three magazines, 36 rounds of 7.62 millimeter special ammunition, two 36 hand grenades and one LG3 bombs, were recovered from the terrorists during the battle that took place on Sunday, 17 May 2020.

Enenche said the military high command had congratulated the troops for the gallantry and professionalism. He assured Nigerians of the military resolve to sustain the offensive against the adversaries.

“We shall not relent until peace and normalcy are restored not only in   North East but also in every other troubled region of our beloved country.”
