The Arewa Youth Alliance (AA) has advocated that the National Assembly (NASS) should be gunning for Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as the next President of the Senate.
Its Chairman, Bashiru Saidu Muhammad, in a statement, said as NASS prepares for the 10th Senate, and the Senators-elect settle to elect their leaders, the time is now to look out for excelling qualities that can roll the upper chamber to its expected position as one of the three arms of government.
“There is no doubt, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko is a Nigerian politician who was governor from 2007 to 2015 and has been a senator since 2015 till date. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and currently represents Sokoto North Senatorial District.
“Wamakko has gained a reputation as a seasoned politician who has a good understanding of the Nigerian political landscape. He is known for his ability to bring people from different political backgrounds together to achieve a common goal.
“If elected as the Senate president, Wamakko will use his political experience to foster unity and collaboration between lawmakers from different parties. He will also prioritize the interests of Nigerians by pushing for legislation that will benefit the majority of Nigerians.
“Wamakko’s background as a former governor and current senator also gives him a good understanding of the workings of the executive and legislative arms of government. This knowledge will be useful in ensuring that the Senate works effectively with the presidency to achieve national development goals.
“As a serving Senator, Wamakko has garnered respect from among members of the National Assembly, irrespective of their political affiliations. Although a quiet Lawmaker, has built confidence in the minds of the present leadership of NASS, so much that he is resorted to for guidance and advise.
“It is worthy of note therefore that Wamakko’s political experience, reputation for collaboration, and knowledge of the political system could make him a good candidate for the position of Senate president,” the group stated.
