Senator Bukola Saraki from Kwara state has emerged as the sole candidate of the North-central zone in the race for the Senate President.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the zone which announced him as its sole candidate said the choice followed the withdrawal of another contestant from the zone, George Akume, from the race.
In a communiqué at the end of a meeting of the party chairmen in the zone held in Abuja, the zone resolved and unanimously declared it was only interested in the office of the Senate Presidency.
The communiqué dated May 25, 2015, was signed by: Hon. Letep M. Dabang Chairman, Plateau state, read in part; “that we are resolute in our collective decision to produce a single candidate from the zone to the office of the Senate Presidency and we abide with same considering the fact that all our distinguished senators from the zone had equally maintained similar position in their earlier meetings.”
They, therefore, rejected an attempt by some individuals and a group within and outside the North-central making efforts to jeopardise the collective will of the people of the zone.
