A salesman identified as Vershima David, aged 28, has been jailed for three months over theft of wrappers, some under wears, sandals, shoes, one generator, an electric iron, weaving machine, a plastic table and some pieces of thread, all valued at N185,000 in Gwarimpa where he was employed by one Adeogun Ayobami of Gwarimpa Estate.
David, of no fixed address, ran away to unknown destination until he was arrested on June 4.
At the Kado Grade 1 Area Court yesterday sentenced David, to three months jail term for theft.
The convict pleaded guilty to the one-count charge levelled against him.
The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other potential offenders.
Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10,000 fine.
The judge also ordered that the convict must pay N185,000 compensation to the complainant.
He added that David had begged for mercy and blamed the devil for his action.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
