Salaries: Kogi LG workers issue 5-day ultimatum

Local government workers in Kogi state Tuesday gave a 5-day ultimatum to director of local governments and local government treasurers to adhere strictly to NFIU guidelines that stipulates the need to accord workers monthly salaries and allowances top priority.

The ultimatum which commenced Monday, 15th July, to Friday, 19th July, 2019 follows an earlier demand by local government workers demanding that salaries should be paid.

In a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting held by leaders of Kogi Central branch union forum and signed by the NULGE, NUT, NASU, M/HWUN, NANNMS and  NUP forum chairm called on DLGs/LGTs to comply with their earlier demand without further delay.

They assured of their preparedness to take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with the NFIU directives/guideline in respect of the payment of 100 per cent workers and retirees’ monthly salaries, pensions and allowances respectively.

The joint union leaders further warned that “failure to comply, we shall be compelled to invite the EFCC, ICPC and the NFIU to carry out investigations as to why workers and pensioners have been placed on percentage salaries and pensions since January, 2016 till date.”

Leaders of Kogi Central branch union forum last week issued a joint statement calling for strict adherence to the NFIU guidelines and advocated for 100 per cent payment of their monthly salaries/allowances.

Efforts made by the forum to get the information disseminated to workers in various local governments in Kogi central resulted in a clash between workers of some local governments in the area and suspected political thugs.
