The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has appealed to communities for total cooperation in the ongoing road construction, reiterating no community will be left behind in his development agenda.
Speaking during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Maikalangu who expressed joy over the progress made so far in the ongoing road projects across AMAC communities, urged them to cooperate with the council and construction workers towards ensuring that communities get access to better roads.
He said the projects, when completed, will boost the socio–economic development of communities, noting that residents of the communities have no other home than here and must allow access to projects and development opportunities in their communities.
He said: “I want to use this opportunity to appeal to residents of different communities under AMAC to show understanding and cooperate with us in the ongoing road projects in different communities. I was heartbroken to learn from the engineers that some houses will be affected in different areas.
“They told me some of the houses will have to give way if we are to achieve our desired objectives in the road construction. You can understand my dilemma as we have to make a choice between removing some houses and giving the people quality roads.
“Therefore, it is with difficulty that I make this appeal for those affected to cooperate with us and give way for us to continue the road construction. It is for the overall good of AMAC as the roads will be enjoyed by our generations to come.
“If at all we had alternatives, we would have exploited them without touching any house, but as it is, the affected houses will have to give way. On our part, we’ll ensure that we deliver quality roads that will justify the sacrifice of removing certain houses on the pathway.
“Also, I want to encourage AMAC residents to continue being optimistic for a better AMAC. They should continue supporting this government for dividends of democracy to get to them. There is no community that will be left behind in the development agenda of this administration.
“All we need is your support and prayers. Payment of taxes will also encourage us to do more for AMAC residents and I am glad that I have an understanding people. With your support, everything good will get to you under my watch as AMAC Chairman.”
