The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) Monday said it is committed to transparency, community engagement and delivery of its mandate as outlined in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report.
Head, communications, HYPREP, Dr. Enuorale Mba-Nwigoh, stated this during a one – day facility tour to HYPREP site in Ogoni, led by the South south zone vice president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone F, Mr. Opaka Dokubo, weekend.
Dr. Nwigoh while speaking to newsmen shortly after the facility tour of HYPREP site in four local government areas of Ogoni land told the visiting journalists the strategic plans and projects under Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey as project coordinator.
He mentioned the project to include land remediation, shoreline clean-up and water supply. The rest are human capital development and livelihoods programmes, the Ogoni Specialist Hospital, Centre of Excellence for Environment Restoration, as well as Ogoni Power Project.
He stated that the phase1of the mangrove restoration project has reached 93 percent completion with more than 1.3 million mangrove seedlings planted in the area.
HYPEP spokesperson added that the centre of excellence for environmental restoration has equally exceeded 90 percent completion, to be commissioned soon.
