Tough time awaits local government workers in Rivers state as nominee for Chairmanship position of its Local Government Service Commission , Mr Ezreal Amadi, vowed to end indolence among the workers.

Mr Amadi made the vow on Wednesday when being screened by the Senate ‘s ad – hoc committee on oversight of Emergency Rule in Rivers state.

He lamented that most workers in the state report to work between 10:00am and 11:00am on daily basis which according to him, would not be condoned by the Local Government Service Commission under his chairmanship .

“When I was in service, I reported  to work on daily basis between 7:30 and 8:00am and spent two to three hours in the car to wait for others , who usually come 10:00am to 11: 00am daily.

“I got disturbed to the point of complaining to a senior civil servant then, Mrs Ngozi Odu who later became deputy governor of the state.

“I have private sector background which gives no room for indolence in whatever form and will bring it to bear on the workforce of the Local Government Councils in Rivers State,” he said.

Also, a nominee for membership of the commission, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Offik (Rtd), made similar vow by telling the committee chaired by Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele that he would join Mr Amadi as Chairman and other members, to rekindle discipline in the system.

“If we don’t have it, we can’t give it out. I will join the chairman of the commission and other members to ensure that Local Government workers in Rivers State , work with discipline for required results in terms of service delivery,” he said.

He however, added that the issue of welfare of the workers, would be addresed and improve upon.

Other nominees into the commission as members and screened by the committee, are Mr Linus Nwandem, Lady Christabel George – Didia, Dr Tonye Willie Pepple, Barrister Richard Ewoh and Barrister Samuel Apiafi .
