Revenue generation: Kaduna Assembly urges finance ministry to redouble efforts

Kaduna state House of Assembly has urged the Ministry of Finance to redouble its effort in the area of revenue generation in order to meet up with the needs of the state.
The House also enjoyed them to do more in paying liabilities so as to boost market activities in the state.
The House through its Chairman, Committee on Finance, Alhaji Sani Gimi, made the call when the ministry appeared before it to defence its year 2018 budget, stressing that the ministry is the life wire of the government and as such it needs to do more in terms of revenue generation.
“Our main concern is on the total budget of the state; so we encourage the ministry to do more in revenue generation because, looking at the 2018 budget, almost 40 per cent depends on external loans and this is not healthy,” he said.
According to him, “although what the government is using the fund to develop the state but we are encouraging them to do more in internally generated revenue.
Speaking in an interview with Assembly correspondents shortly after its budget defence, the Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Abdul Kori, said the ministry intends to spend N10.7billion in 2018.
According to the commissioner, the budget of the ministry has N2.4billion as recurrent expenditure while the capital expenditure stood at N8.billion.
