Reps c’ttee assesses NEDC’s projects in Bauchi

The House of Representatives Committee on Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) on Friday expressed satisfaction with the quality of projects executed by the Commission in Bauchi and other states in the North-east.

The chairman of the Committee, Usman Zannah, while speaking with journalists during the Committee’s oversight visit to NEDC intervention projects in Bauchi state, assured that the committee would facilitate more legislative provisions that would strengthen the activities of the Commission for effective service delivery.

Zannah implored the Commission to sustain the tempo of execution of quality projects.

He urged the federal government to continue with its investment in the NEDC activities with sufficient funds to scale up its outreach across the states of operations to address infrastructure deficit, security and economic challenges.

The NEDC managing director, Goni Alkali, in his remarks, said the projects embarked upon across the North-east states were in line with the determination to improve the quality of lives of the people.

Among the NEDC’s projects in Bauchi are construction of Institute of Ophthalmology Complex at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital Bauchi; construction of surgical ward and equipping, rehabilitation/skills acquisition at National Obstetrics Centre, Ningi; reconstruction of culverts and drainages at Alkaleri-Futuk Road; construction of Kirfi-Gombe Abba Road – Kirfi Gombe, and the drilling of 6’’ diameter (350m) API borehole with solar hybrid accessories; construction of overhead tank and provision of water points on concrete slab in Duguri, Alkaleri.

Others, according to him, are construction and equipping of a triage

(medical emergency complex) centre at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching hospital Bauch;, establishment of ICT Training Center at Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi; establishment of ICT Training Centre at Bauchi State University, Gadau Campus; establishment of ICT Training Centre at the -College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Misau
