Rep seeks relief materials for victims of Sokoto market fire

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Ahmed, has described the Kasuwan Konawa central market fire outbreak as unfortunate, given the level of damage done to the properties owned by the traders and petty business owners there.

The lawmaker, while speaking to journalists on the incidents in Abuja over the weekend, said he visited the market to ascertain the extent of damage before determining the amount of relief required to assuage the problem, saying the victims lost  properties worth millions of naira to the fire outbreak.

Hon Abdullahi Ahmed, who called on public-spirited individuals to rally support to the victims, described the incidence as a huge loss not only to those engaged in trading but to Sokoto state in general.

He explained that the incidence was unfortunate, coming at a time when the people were struggling to come out of post COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the economy of  the state and the country.

Ahmed said he would continue to support the people for them to become strong and continue with their business activities.  

The lawmaker, who got into the National Assembly  few months ago, said he was fast catching up with legislative business and would soon swing into action by moving motions  and  bills  that with direct bearing on the lives of his  people.

At the moment, the lawmaker said he is collaborating with some government agencies  for empowerment programme that will  be of benefit the people of Sokoto North and South  through skills acquisition and manpower training that would  improve their standard of living.
