As part of efforts geared to mitigate flood impact on the citizens, the Nigerian Red Cross Society has said 400,000 households would benefit from its 2025 flood resilience project.
The association said the 400,000 households are spread across 12 states, which are Edo, Gombe, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Enugu, Bornu, Ogun, Sokoto, Niger, Nasarawa and Lagos.
The branch secretary, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Edo state chapter, Mr. Wilson Ekhomogiazin, stated this during a one-day stakeholders’ engagement on flooding in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
Ekhomogiazin added that the event is centered on flood response, recovery and resilience and added that the flood resilience project is being supported by the Italian government.
Ekhomogiazin noted that, “In 2024, flood impacted negatively on one million Nigerians and that steps are underway to mitigate this year’s flood on Nigerians, especially those living in flood prone areas of the country.”
The state chairman of the association, Pastor Monday Edogiawerie, said Nigerian Red Cross Society is set to implement the Flood Resilience Project in Esan South East and Etsako Central local government areas of Edo state.
