Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) report for Quarter 4, 2017, has revealed that professional misconduct, money for bribe and excessive use of force topped complaints against policemen in the quarter under review.
The report made available to journalists on Monday in Abuja by the Head PCRRU, ACP Abayomi Shogunle, indicated that highest complaints were received against officers of the Lagos state Command with 134 complaints, which represents 22.19 per cent of the total complaints.
“This is as FCT and Rivers state Command followed with 89 and 88 complaints, respectively, against officers and men of the commands.
“Similarly, 65 cases of professional misconducts were reported against police officer in Lagos state, while FCT and Rivers had 60 and 24 complaints, respectively,” the Report indicated.
It added that Rivers state topped lists of complaints regarding demanding money for bail with 52 cases, while Lagos had 42 cases and Anambra had 17 cases followed by FCT with 12 cases.
The Report also indicated that on complaints regarding excessive use of force, Lagos state took the lead with 26 cases while FCT and Rivers followed with 14 and 11 cases.
It further indicated that phone calls remained the most preferred channel of choice by members of the public, with 342 out of the 604 complaints recorded in the period under review being received through phones calls.
“180 of the complaints were received through WhatsApp; SMS eight, e-mails 29, twitter 15, facebook three, BBM two and others 25.”
