The examination by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) was Tuesday stopped in Asaba by protesting final year students of the Delta State Schools of Nursing, Agbor, Eku and Warri.

The examination was supposed to start but over 300 students who stormed the Delta state Library complex, venue of the exercise, alleged that they were not enrolled for examination after paying the required fees.

They accused the director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Gloria Igumbor, of not enrolling them for the examination after paying the N98,000 enrollment fee and additional N15,000 for computer training.

One of the students, Bethel Matthew, from the School of Nursing, Eku, alleged that there are plans to clear only 50 persons for the examination while others would be made to extend their stay in school.

“We are here because they refused to allow us write exams. Just about 12 mid night, the director of Nursing Services (DNS) came with bouncers, and without apology, she said some people are not writing the exam for technological issues.

“They read out only 50 names to write the exam, and at Eku alone, we are over 170 students.

“She threatened us with a voice note attached to it. She said if we dare to protest, the police will arrest us. We are not protesting, we are only demanding that they allow us to write exam,” she alleged.
