Prison congestion: Police appeal to Rivers govt on JUSUN strike

Rivers state police command has called on the state government to resolve the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) strike.
Briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, said due to the ongoing strike there was congestion in all police cells across the state.
Ogunsakin said there was nowhere to keep suspects as the number continued to increase by the day as a result of the strike.
He pointed out that the continuous strike “does not serve anyone good, therefore, the Rivers state JUSUN should, in the interest of the general public and smooth administration of justice, suspend the strike.”

He appealed to the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led leadership to do everything within its powers to call off the ongoing strike.
Meanwhile, the police boss has said that there were other issues beyond security which had kept JUSUN away from work under the sub-title “The Fears,” stressing: “The directive of the JSC that no staff should carry out any directive in line with the NJC letter put the workers at the crossroads.”
