The Presidency has strongly condemned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its recent statement accusing the Tinubu administration of politicising the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a press release issued on Saturday by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, the Presidency described the ADC’s comments as “an opportunistic exercise in manufactured outrage” and a “laughable tantrum” from a party “desperately clutching at straws for relevance.”
The ADC had earlier alleged that the federal government was exploiting Buhari’s passing for political gain, a claim the Presidency swiftly rejected as dishonest and disrespectful to Nigerians who mourned the late statesman.
“The ADC is the one exploiting Buhari’s death for political attention, not this government. They have chosen to dance on his grave for relevance,” the statement read.
The Presidency also accused the opposition party of being inconsistent and plagued by internal crises, saying the ADC had become notorious for issuing disjointed statements to attract attention.
In defending the Tinubu administration’s handling of Buhari’s burial, the Presidency emphasised that it was conducted with full honours, befitting the former leader’s legacy, and was widely watched by Nigerians and acknowledged by world leaders.
The statement also reeled out what it called the administration’s “tangible and ongoing” achievements, including naira stabilisation, increased oil production, improved FAAC allocations, infrastructural development, and the implementation of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and Consumer Credit Scheme.
“These are not press statements. These are results,” the Presidency asserted.
It ended by reaffirming President Tinubu’s commitment to governance and the Renewed Hope Agenda, while urging Nigerians to disregard what it termed the “political noise” from “an outfit gasping for attention.”
The strongly worded response highlights growing tensions between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties as political rhetoric intensifies nationwide.
