Power supply: Anambra set to establish state electricity regulatory commission

Anambra state government has said it was poised to establish Electricity Regulatory Commission for improved power supply.

The commission, it was learnt, would help the State to fully implement the Anambra State Electricity Bill which was passed into law by the State House of Assembly and assented to on April 10, 2025 by governor Soludo.

The state Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, announced this in a statement after the executive council meeting presided over by governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The law would regulate electricity generation, transmission, and distribution while ensuring equitable access and reliable, efficient electricity delivery within Anambra state.

“Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission to be established: To implement the recently assented Anambra State Electricity Act, ANSEC decided to immediately establish the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission and launched a recruitment drive for subject-matter experts to join the new commission,” he added.

The meeting, according to the commissioner, equally approved naming of the new Anambra state government house as “Light House Awka” in keeping with Anambra state’s slogan, “Light of the Nation,” as well as explored how to restore, reshape the moral and social structures of the state.

The state government also ruled that facilities used as holding places for child beggars would be confiscated and sealed In compliance with Anambra Homeland Security Law, 2025.
