Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said that it had deployed another 1, 000 personnel to provide security to the North-east region to protect the liberated areas and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Earlier, the Corps had deployed about 2, 300 to the region.
A statement signed yesterday in Abuja by the NSCDC spokesman, Okeh Emmanuel, also said the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has requested the corps to take-over the protection of the 22 stations of the organisation across the nation in line with its constitutional role as the lead agency in-charge of the protection of critical infrastructure and national assets in the country.
“By November 1, this year, 1, 000 personnel will be deployed to the North-east to swell the number of 2, 300 Personnel already on ground in the region.”
The statement quoted the Comptroller-General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, as saying: “’The NSCDC is moving on to greater heights and things done for Officers and Men, must be done well, as they labour earnestly for the glory of the Corps. Henceforth, all allowances and any form of stipend to be paid Officers and Men for their labours will be paid them directly.”
He reiterated that the Corps within its capacity was committed to protecting the Internally Displaced Persons in their various camps and to ensure their safety always, as the NSCDC was unflinchingly committed to win the peace.
