The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra state chapter in collaboration the State Police command, has concluded an arrangement to organise series of sporting competitions with markets and other stakeholders across the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Dr Ikioye Orutugu, who disclosed this while interacting with members of SWAN in his office, Monday, assured that the competitions would enhance their relationship with the public while promoting bonding, trust and community development.
According to Orutugu, the initiative would also promote social cohesion, improve communication between law enforcement and the public, create a positive and engaging environment for the public.
“The Command and SWAN are reviewing the proposal to enable us select the appropriate participants, theme of the competitions and other necessary arrangements. This will surely showcase the importance of sports in building bridges between the law enforcement and the community, evidently streamline our efforts to partner with various stakeholders to end violent crimes in Anambra State,” he added.
Earlier speaking, the state Chairman of SWAN, Mr Chimezie Anaso, commended the Commissioner for the move, assuring that the partnership would help in no small measure in supporting the Command to actualise its goals.
