The Nigeria Police Force has announced significant breakthroughs in its fight against violent crime, successfully rescuing 29 kidnap victims and arresting three suspected kidnappers in recent operations across Kogi, Lagos, and Katsina states.
These efforts, according to the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, underscore the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode ayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s commitment to restoring public confidence and curbing criminal activities.
On June 23, 2025, police operatives in Kogi state repelled a kidnap attempt on three commercial vehicles along the Obajana–Oshokoshoko road.
Following a fierce gun duel, all 24 victims were rescued unhurt. The previous day, June 22, 2025, police in Okene Division, Kogi state, intercepted a suspicious Nissan vehicle. While the driver fled, a search of the vehicle yielded an AK-47 rifle, 28 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, a G3 magazine, and other personal items. Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
In Lagos state, police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly responded to an abduction in the Ikoga area of Morogbo. The victim, a 20-year-old male named Kehinde, was reportedly lured via WhatsApp and kidnapped for a ransom of N500,000. Rapid police action led to the arrest of three suspects, Celestine Okeke,28; Michael Okonkwo, 25 and Kehinde Oladun,30 and the unhurt rescue of the victim, who has since been reunited with his family.
Meanwhile, in Katsina state, police operatives swiftly mobilised to Mazare village following reports of an attack and kidnapping attempt. They engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun duel, overpowering them and forcing them to flee with gunshot injuries. This action resulted in the rescue of four kidnapped victims, all unhurt.
The IGP Egbetokun has commended the brave and gallant operatives, urging them to maintain the momentum in ridding Nigeria of criminal elements.
