Police read riot act to Kano tricycle operators

The Kano state Police command, Tuesday read riot act to riders of tricycles flying on highways and roads in the state.

The police alleged that the tricycle riders cause unnecessary and avoidable accidents and related inconveniences to road users.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Tuesday and made available to journalists, said the riders must have authentic tricycle registration plate numbers and KAROTA number affixed appropriately to the tricycles.

The statement quoted that “any person or persons seen carrying passengers on his side or riding without due identification marks would be arrested and prosecuted in court”.

The statement noted that the decision was aimed at safeguarding the lives and properties of the good citizens of the state.

The Command said henceforth, serious action would be taken on riders carrying passengers on either side of the road.

“Members of the public are advised to shun any tricyclist overloading passengers or lacks identification marks in order to guarantee their safety,’’ said the statement.
