Police foil robbery attack, neutralise suspect in Akwa Ibom

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom state Police command Thursday successfully foiled an armed robbery attempt at the Annex B Estate in Ikot Ator village, Ikot Ekpene local government area of the state.

The incident occurred Wednesday after the police received a distressed call reporting an ongoing armed robbery. 

This was contained in a statement by the Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John in Uyo.

The statement added that the swift police response led to a gun duel between operatives and the armed robbers, resulting in the neutralisation of one suspect and the escape of two others with bullet wounds.

It said items recovered from the scene include a locally made shotgun, cartridges, mobile phones, an industrial cutter, cash, and other valuables. 

The statement reads: “At approximately 02:15hrs on July 23, 2025, a swift and decisive operation by the operatives of the command thwarted an armed robbery attempt at Annex B Estate in Ikot Ator village.

“The operation commenced after the police received a distressed call from a concerned citizen reporting an ongoing armed robbery. Responding, operatives were dispatched immediately to the location.

“One of the armed robbers was neutralised during the exchange of gunfire, while the other two sustained bullet wounds and managed to escape,” he said.

Items recovered from the scene include: One cut-to-size locally made shotgun, one expanded cartridge, one live cartridge, four assorted Android mobile phones, one industrial cutter, one cross bag containing a cash sum of N5,700, one wrist watch, one Echolac traveling box containing clothes and one Qlink motorcycle with registration number UML 906 QX.
